My story
In 2011, I came up with my vision for the future - #LearnDoRise with #AsiriPerera. I got registered as a Self-Employed in the UK and started trading from my bedroom with no capital. My vision #LearnDoRise® is all about how I was raised by my parents. I am just carrying that inspiration forward for the future generations.
Born in the Central Province, Kandy City in Sri Lanka in the mid 1980s to a natural Entrepreneur and a Self-Made Millionaire, the Late Mr Wilmalsiri Perera (1955-2001) and to a wonderful home mother Mrs Sriyani Molligoda, I grew up with three beautiful sisters and talented twin brothers.
My childhood in Sri Lanka was a wonderful adventure with a comfortable lifestyle full of love and laughter. My late father was a visionary leader who ran several successful enterprises in Sri Lanka. I am inspired by his natural entrepreneurial and leadership skills in my business. My parents have taught us to Learn well - be an academic, practice what you've learnt - be an entrepreneur and to rise well to next steps at all times.
In 2001, our father's sudden demise due to heart failure led to a significant loss of wealth, businesses, and hope. With him as our main support, guide, and inspiration, life took a turn. After completing my Advanced Level, I joined a prominent accountancy firm in Sri Lanka as a Company Secretary. The older siblings prioritized employment to sustain younger siblings' education and support the family during this challenging period.
Whilst working in a full time job to support my family, I have studied towards my Bachelors qualification, moved up in my career ladder and worked for several blue-chip companies in Sri Lanka and reached managerial position. I met my wonderful husband, we got married and moved to the UK for my Masters Level studies when I was 25 years old.
Completed MBA with Merit from Liverpool John Moores University, marking a significant turning point. Acquired skills in business establishment, team leadership, decision-making, and research. Despite a great academic experience, pondered next steps, guided by my father's advice on applying learning into practice. Uncertain about the future.
I decided to apply my business knowledge, faced uncertainties, questioned the type of business, funding, and resources. Despite challenges, inspired by my husband, I registered in the UK, learning along the way. Successfully obtained Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa with an accepted business plan.
Established six businesses in the UK and Sri Lanka, embracing continuous learning and excellence. Gratitude for one's position and surroundings emphasized. Encouragement to acquire academic qualifications, apply learning, and rise daily.

Unfortunately, our farther died from a heart failure in the year 2001 whilst
we were all schooling. We lost almost all the wealth, businesses and hope
for the future because our father was the main carer, guider and the
inspiration for all of us. This was a turning point in my life and I joined
a leading accountancy firm in Sri Lanka as a Company Secretary just after
successfully completing my Advanced Level because the older siblings had to
seek job opportunities instead of continuing higher education to support
younger siblings's education and to support the family.
Whilst working in a full time job to support my family, I have studied
towards my Bachelors qualification, moved up in my career ladder and worked
for several blue-chip companies in Sri Lanka and reached managerial
position. I met my wonderful husband, we got married and moved to the UK for
my Masters Level studies when I was 25 years old.
I have successfully completed my Masters in Business Administration (MBA)
from Liverpool John Moores University with a Merit. This was my second
turning point in life. I have learnt how to establish a business, how to
lead teams, how to make informed decisions, how to research for information
and many more. This was a wonderful academic experience. But, as my father
said, learning will take you no where if you do not put learning in to
practice. Hence, I have spent days and nights thinking what am I going to do
next. I had no clue.
Then one day, I thought, well what I have learnt is how to build a business.
So why not building a business? Yet, there were many other questions, what
business to start? how to fund? where would be the resources, staff,
premises etc. There were times I felt like giving up. My wonderful husband
was my inspiration, my strength and my reason not to give up. I registered
my business in the UK anyway and I thought I will learn as I go. My business
plan was accepted and I have successfully received Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa
in the UK as well.
Since then, I have established six businesses in the UK and in Sri Lanka. I
am still learning, continuing to do well in everything I do and seeking
work-in-progress next steps. All I have to tell you is to be thankful for
where you are, be thankful for the people around you, Learn and earn your
bachelors, masters and doctorate qualifications, put your learning in to
practice, rise everyday!
